ABSTRACT
This study shows the writers’ approach to the issue of death, vengeance and honour in African society that are exposed in Tewfik Al-Hakim’s novel entitled Song of Death. The data used in this study was in the form of sentences and words taken from dialogues and narration of the drama text. This study uses a qualitative method, and the data analysis was done by applying the new historicism approach proposed by Baldick and Burdan. The result of this analyses showed that the playwright aimed to show the differences between two set of people and generation, from the same place but with different ideologies about tradition. Furthermore, the study use is analyzed data to show that revenge and vengeance over the death of a loved one can only further more problems in our society which will result to more rift and killing, and that embracing peace like the protagonist Ilwan do can further safe the nation at large using the traditional and modern ways of life to explain for better understanding.
