ABSTRACT

The study focused on the extraction and storage of melon seed oil, as well as the production of perfume and soap using the extracted oil. The results showed that the saponification values of both mechanically and chemically extracted melon seed oils increased over the storage period. The saponification values of the mechanically extracted oil ranged from 208.840 to 288.838 mgKOH/g, while the chemically extracted melon oil had values ranging from 217.000 to 314.081 mgKOH/g. The increase in saponification values may be attributed to hydrolysis of the fatty acids in the oil, as well as the presence of additional by products in the chemically extracted oil. Despite the differences in saponification values, both oils met the quality standards set by regulatory bodies with values falling within the acceptable range and was used in the production of antiseptic soap and perfumes.
