ABSTRACT

Due to the increase in population, both developed and developing countries are facing mainly issues surrounding the future energy security and a better use of natural resources. Such present and future energy problems can be solved by the use of renewable energy sources. Among several renewable energy sources is a sustainable means of anaerobic digestion (AD) for production of gases. In the work, we looked at the production rate of biogas from different feedstock (cow dung and chicken droppings). Some chemical analysis such as pH, moisture content, ash content and mass of volatile compounds were carried out on the biomass. 250g of yam peels were mixed with 1000g of cow dung and 250 cm3 of water in the reactor. Biogas was collected for fourteen days. Thereafter, the chicken droppings was used. The result shows that the cow dung produced a total volume of 47.58dm3 as against 21.6dm3. This revealed that the cow dung tend to produce more biogas than the chicken droppings using am peels. This work will help in waste management and that’s by reducing the dungs.
