ABSTRACT

Classroom management is a crucial aspect of effective teaching and learning in secondary schools. This study explores the challenges faced by educators in Ovia North East Local Government Area, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, regarding classroom management.

The research employed qualitative methods, including interviews and observations, to gather data from teachers, students, and school administrators.

 

Findings reveal several significant challenges, including inadequate resources and infrastructure, overcrowded classrooms, lack of teacher training in classroom management techniques, student indiscipline, and socio-economic factors affecting student behavior. Additionally, the study highlights the influence of cultural norms and community dynamics on classroom dynamics. The implications of these challenges are far-reaching, impacting students' academic performance, teacher job satisfaction, and overall school climate. Addressing these issues requires a multi-faceted approach, including policy interventions, professional development for teachers, community involvement, and allocation of resources to improve infrastructure and classroom conditions. This research contributes to the understanding of classroom management challenges in secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, and provides insights for policymakers, educators, and stakeholders to enhance teaching and learning environments for better educational outcomes.
