ABSTRACT
The study investigated the prevalence of pterygium among commercial motorcyclists in Oluku community. A total of 74 motorcyclists age between 20 - 60years were screened. Structured questionnaires were administered and external examination carried out. Result showed that 44 (59.5%) of the 74 subject had pingueculae while 35 (47.2%) had pterygium. There was a strong prevalence of pingueculae among the motorcyclists, from the finding there is a strong relationship between the development of pterygium and pingueculae and the duration of riding and the use of protective goggles. This study thus recommend in this light the proper education about the importance of wearing protective goggles or helmet with full face shield or even face cap. Chi square was employed in the statistical analysis.
