PREVALENCE OF COLOUR VISION DEFICIENCY IN LOW/MODERATE DEGREE OF MYOPIA AMONG STUDENTS

ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to determine the prevalence of Colour vision deficiency in low/moderate degree of myopia among students of the university of Benin,Benin city in the Optometry teaching clinic, Ugbowo campus.This was a cross sectional sample study of Fifty(n=50) Students that has myopia as a refractive error aged between 16-30years carried out between July and August 2023.Ophalmoscopy was done to rule out opacity in the ocular media while Retinoscopy and Subjective refraction was carried out to confirm the refractive state of the eyes .Ishiara test plates (25 edition) was used to perform the colour vision test on myopes.subjects who were not able identify up to 13 plates or more were classified as colour vision deficient.Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22.0 was used to analyze the data, and descriptive statistics (frequency distributions, percentages, means, and standard deviations) were employed to summarize the variables.The results showed that 43 out of 50 Subjects were able to correctly identify the 25 plates of the isihihara test plate, while 4 persons could correctly identify 24 plates, one person each was able to identify 18 ,19, 21 and 23 plates only out of 25 Plates correctly for both the left and Right Eyes. In Conclusion, This study reveals that there is no significant relationship between Colour vision Deficiency and low/moderate degree of myopia. This study also reveals that there is no specific colour vision Deficiency present in myopia.
