ABSTRACT

The perception of and aptitude for distinguishing colors is known as color vision. Therefore, having poor color vision means being unable to distinguish between colors in their real form. The study ascertained the frequency of color blindness in Benin Metropolis's commercial drivers. The Farnsworth D15 test was used to examine 100 drivers (all men) in five parking lots in Benin Metropolis, Edo State, for colour vision deficiencies. Both descriptive statistics of simple percentages, frequency tables and charts, and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data (Chi-square test). According to the study, Just 4 (or 4%) of the 100 commercial drivers examined had a colour vision defect, Their colour deficiencies were as follows: A protan color vision defect was manifest in one driver (1%), a deutan color vision defect was manifest in two drivers (2%), and a tritan color vision defect was manifest in one driver (1%). Data from the chi-square test (a 0.01) revealed that commercial drivers are significantly more likely to be color blind. In this study, color blindness was quite uncommon. However, it is advised that authorities focus on screening for color blindness in commercial drivers due to its connection to auto accidents. The data was analyzed using the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 22.0.
