ABSTRACT

The purpose of this research work is to determine the predisposing factors affecting academic performance of students with special needs in inclusive schools in Egor Local Government Area of Benin City Edo state: Implication of counselling. Survey research design was adopted and a total of 115 questionnaires were administered to students with special needs in inclusive schools. Findings have revealed that students with special needs face a complex interplay of factors that can influence their academic performance. This research has explored various predisposing factors, categorized into individual characteristics, educational environment, and family and socioeconomic background. Individual characteristics, such as the nature of the disability, cognitive abilities, and self-efficacy, play a significant role. By addressing these factors through targeted interventions, creating inclusive learning environments, and fostering collaborative partnerships, we can empower students with special needs to reach their full academic potential and achieve success.
