ABSTRACT

Pre-colonial relations among the Yoruba borders around the activities and events that ensued among towns, states and kingdoms in the Awesters region of Nigeria in the era before colonial administration. This study has gone to great lengths in serving significant information about Yorubaland before the influx and control of the British. It has extensively discussed the coming to be of the Yoruba region, and how the region has expanded into states, kingdoms and empires, taking note of specific events that led to the rise of certain territories. Also, it has shown the interrelatednesses of the different diplomacies across towns and kingdoms in Yorubaland, as well as their roles in state building.

In addition, this study of pre-colonial relations among the Yoruba gives an insight to the socio-cultural strata of Yorubaland before colonial times, expressly punting an image of the customs and traditions that existed in the era, and how the different towns and kingdoms have had cordial and otherwise relations on this front.

Moreson, this study describes the economic situations, practices and developments that took place in Yorubaland before the colonial ear, giving vivid images of the economic relations that existed among or between towns and kingdoms, specifically as regards trade, exchange and market structures.

In essence, this study of Pre-colonial Relations Among the Yoruba reveals the workings od Yoruba in pre-colonial times, bringing to light the significance of the relations that existed between towns and kingdoms, as well as how these relations have contributed to the building up of the region’s history.
