ABSTRACT

This long essay is a thematic exploration of The Power of Women in Buchi Emecheta’s Second Class Citizen. The work identifies certain limitations to the maximizing of the strength of women like Patriarchy, Gender roles, stereotypes and discrimination. It also examines Adah as a woman, her qualities and strength as a reflection for woman. Revealing that women can go the extra mile for their families (each individual family makes up the society) therefore women should be respected for their contributions and for their uniqueness and every forms of oppression against them should be stopped, rather a gender equitable society should be created where both genders are respected for their uniqueness.
