POVERTY STATUS OF PLANTAIN FARMERS

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to ascertain the impact of plantain production on poverty level in Ovia North-East Local Government of Edo State. A multi- stage sampling procedure was used in selecting the respondents. The first stage was purposive sampling of town/communities from Ovia North-East Local Government supplied area by ADP. The second stage involved the proportionate use of random sampling technique in selecting plantain farmers. Five farmers was selected from each of the 6 communities/town which amount to 30 respondents for the study. A descriptive statistics such as mean, percentage and frequency count, Gross margin technique and logistic regression were used for the data analysis. Based on the findings of the study, It was concluded that majority of the farmers were male with mean age of 41 years.
