ABSTRACT
Solid waste management (SWM) refers to the processes involved in generation, on-site handling and storage, collection, transfer/transportation, processing and disposal of solid wastes. However, these processes have become very complicated and challenging leading to extreme impacts on living organisms and the environment alike. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the potential impacts of SWM on general population. 100 questionnaires were distributed among adult male and female participants in the lagos municipal area to determine this potential impacts. SPSS version 27 was used to analyse the result of the data and bar chart, pie charts and tables were used to present the findings of the results. The result showed significant negative impacts on the residents that could lead to long term effects. Positive impacts were also shown, although they were minimal. Based on the findings of this study, education of residents is paramount, provision of skip containers and dustbins, and improvement in the local authority’s policy for effective solid waste management.
