ABSTRACT
Following Nigeria's reestablishment of political independence, this endeavor sought to examine the negative consequences of political violence on the country's development. The effects of political violence are far-reaching, touching on national security, social and economic ties, and more. The biggest threat to any kind of structured civilization is insecurity. Violence feeds insecurity, which in turn breeds insecurity, which in turn gives birth to a host of social ills like ethnic militias, election violence, terrorism, and community unrest, among many others. Undoubtedly, this goes against every possible democratic norm. Consequently, this activity is seen as part of a series of research carried out to examine the effects of election violence on democracy in Nigeria's Fourth Republic.
