PLURALIZATION STRATEGIES IN NORTH IBIE DIALECT (ETSAKO) OF EDO STATE.

ABSTRACT

This project work is on the Pluralisation strategies of the North Ibie dialect of Estako spoken in Etsako East local Government Area of Edo State. This project work aims at obtaining an adequate and comprehensive description of the strategies in the pluralisation of lexical items in the North Ibie variant. The theoretical framework which was employed in this work is Descriptive theoretical framework which describes the language just the way it is, the framework adopts two dimension which is the collection of data and describing the nature of the data using simple terms.                                                                                                       The data collection method employed in this work was mainly base on the primary method. The primary data collection involves a direct oral interview of 3 (2 females and a male) competent native speakers of the language. The major findings for this study is that

1. vowel substitution is used to mark plurality.
2. Use of demonstratives
3. Prefixes and suffixes
4. Suppletion
5. Partial reduplication
