ABSTRACT
This work to examines plural devices in the Kalabari language of Rivers state Nigeria. The language belongs to the East Ijo group of the Niger Delta Family.
The purpose of examining linguistics devices in this language is to explore various methods through which native speakers of Kalabari form plurals for their words, particularly the nominal components. This exploration aims to enhance the understanding both Kalabari speakers and those that are unfamiliar with the language about the plural forms and the process of pluralization within Kalabari. This research employs the morphological theory of the language to illustrates how how Kalabari words become pluralized through the use of derivational processes. The data used for this study were collected from native Kalabari using audio recording of their speech. The study reviews that pluralization primarily affects nominal elements rather than verbs. In Kalabari, nominal element can be pluralized through three distinct methods; the regular plural marker, the irregular plural marker and the zero plural marker. The outcomes of this investigation holds valuable insights for Linguistics research and provide additional knowledge to both native and non-native speakers of Kalabari.
