PLASTIC WASTE MANAGEMENT INNOVATION: PROPOSING AN INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR EFFICIENT WASTE COLLECTION AND RECYCLING IN REDUCING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF POLLUTION (USING IKPOBA OKHA L.G.A AS A CASE STUDY)

ABSTRACT

The study was carried out to determine “Plastic waste management innovation: proposing an innovative solutions for efficient waste collection and recycling in reducing environmental impact of pollution (using ikpoba okha l.g.a as a case study).”. Five research questions were raised the target populations of the study are the inhabitants of ikpoba-okha local government area of edo state. the population of the inhabitants of people in ikpoba okha is given to be four hundred and ninety thousand six hundred (490,600) the sample size selected for this study is one hundred and twenty five (125) inhabitants of ikpoba-okha local government area of edo state, selected randomly using simple random sampling technique. Findings from the study revealed that;The PWMC will develop a unified waste management plan, identify gaps and opportunities, and coordinate efforts to improve waste collection and recycling.That inadequate awareness and education about proper waste disposal practices are significant barriers to effective plastic waste management. The following recommendations are made;There should be regular and comprehensive needs assessments to identify the specific skills that are in demand within the local economy. This ensures that the skills being taught are relevant and increase the employability and entrepreneurial opportunities for the youth.There should be strong partnerships with local businesses and industries to facilitate practical training x opportunities such as internships and apprenticeships. This collaboration can help bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills, making the youth more job ready.
