ABSTRACT
The Abelmoschus Esculentus leaf is of significant value. It contains a high percentage of moisture, crude fat, crude protein, crude carbohydrate, ash, crude fibre and soluble starch. In this study, phytochemical screening and characterization of Abelmoschus Esculentus (A.E) leaf were determined using standard methods. Results of the phytochemical screening revealed the presence of flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, proteins, glycosides, phenols and terpenoids. The presence of phytochemicals in the A.E leaf suggests possible preventive and curative property of the plant. Medically, the presence of these phytochemicals explains the use of the plant in ethno-medicine for the management of various ailments.
