Therapeutic plants have been incorporated into health management since the beginning of time. Studies around the world reveal their efficiency and efficacy as a portion of the findings has prompted the design and formulation of plant-based drugs. Picralima nitida (Apocynaceae) is a West African plant with diverse applications in African society medication. Different pieces of the plant have been utilized ethnomedicinally as a solution for fever, hypertension, jaundice, dysmenorrheal, gastrointestinal problems, and intestinal sickness. To uncover its full pharmacological and therapeutic possibilities, the current study centers around the ongoing therapeutic purposes, phytochemistry, and pharmacological and toxicological exercises of this species. The leaf extracts of this plant were screened for the presence of phytochemicals as well as its in-vitro antioxidant potential. The result revealed the concentrations of flavonoids, tannins, anthocyanidins, and phenols present. Proanthocyanidins concentration was at 294.4µg/ml, FRAP was at 174.4 µg/ml, Total tannins were at 43.2 µg/ml, total flavonoids were at 14.53 µg/ml and total phenols were at 29.7 µg/ml. This study showed that the crude leaf extract of P. nitida has several phytochemicals, some of which possess antibacterial and hepatoprotective activities; confirming its ethnomedicinal use for treating infections and liver problems.
