ABSTRACT
Plantain is a staple food grown in the tropical region of the world. This study was designed to determine the proximate, element analysis and phytochemicals composition of plantain (musa paradisiacal) fruit ethanol extract as possible source of nutrient. The determinations were done using standard methods analysis of Association Official analytical Chemists and Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometric methods. The results of the proximate composition showed the following mineral contents; cesium, iron, magnesium, manganese, sodium, copper, zinc, phosphorus, potassium. The phytochemical composition results revealed the presence of bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, tannin, flavonoids, phenols, saponins, phlobatanins, emotin, proteins, steroids, anthraquinone.
