ABSTRACT
This research project focused on analyzing the phytochemical components, antioxidant activity, total phenolic content, and total flavonoid content of the methanol extract derived from Anthocleista vogelii. The phytochemical screening revealed the presence of various phytochemicals, glycosides, saponins, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, terpenoids, alkaloids, and reducing sugar. When quantified, the quantified, the crude extract was found to have a total phenolic content of 24.87 ± 2.12 mgGAE/g extract and a total flavonoid content of 16.18 ± 0.54 mgQE/g extract. Furthermore, the research assessed the extract's ability to scavenge free radicals using the DPPH (2,2-Diphenyl-1-picryhydrazyl) assay, with an absorbance value measured at 517 nm. The study found that the IC50, which represents the concentration at which 50% inhibition occurred, was measured at 14.08 µg/mL. This result highlights the plant's substantial potential as an antioxidant agent in the fight against free radicals. In summary, the research indicates that Anthocleista vogelii root could be a valuable source of antioxidants, potentially providing health advantages, especially in conditions marked by oxidative stress like hypertension, diabetes, dementia, eye ailments, and similar conditions.
