ABSTRACT

The study titled “physical resource adequacy and principals’ administrative effectiveness in public secondary schools in edo south senatorial district” investigated the relationship between physical resource adequacy and principals’ administrative effectiveness in public secondary schools in Edo South Senatorial District. In carrying out this study, eight (8) research questions were raised while Six (6) hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance.

The study adopted a descriptive research based on the ex-post facto research design. The population of the study comprised all the 136 (one hundred and thirty-six) secondary schools in Edo State and their principals. A total of 14 secondary schools which represents 10 percent of the population constituted the study sample. Two research instruments, a checklist titled: Adequacy of Physical Resource Checklist (APRC) and a questionnaire titled: School Principals’ Administrative Effectiveness Questionnaire (SPAEQUE) which were validated and reliability test established were used to collect data for the study. The data collected were subjected to statistical analysis using percentages, mean, standard deviation, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and Fisher’s z tests. The findings revealed that there was a positive and significant relationship between relationship between Physical resource Adequacy and Principals’ Administrative Effectiveness in public secondary school Edo South Senatorial District.

 Furthermore, the result showed that majority of the resources were not adequate and the level of principals’ administrative effectiveness in Edo South Senatorial District public secondary was high. It was therefore recommended among others that government and other stakeholders should make more provision for physical resources, training and retraining of principals in public secondary schools in Edo South senatorial district to enhance administrative effectiveness.
