ABSTRACT
As many scholars have done series of researches on different dialects of Ijaw language, this research work provides an in-depth analysis of the Phonological differences of Egbema-Ijaw and Olodiama-Ijaw language. The basic phonemes with Minimal pairs, Free variations and Allophone of a phoneme etc. as found in the dialect are explained using the Auto-Segmental that may help ascertain the perceptual correlate of phoneme perceived. However, the autosegmental theory is then adopted in this work in order to cater for some aspects of African language that the previous theories are unable to explain adequately. This work has successfully addressed the problem of contrastive-ness of the sound segment by vividly clarifying some patterns of Egbema-Ijaw and Olodiama-Ijaw languages. Therefore, this research work posits, among others, that; there is difference in phonemes between Egbema-Ijaw and Olodiama-Ijaw. It also showed that there are varieties of sound between the two dialects in the analysis and also on the grammaticality of phonemes that do not being about change in meaning.
