ABSTRACT

This study Petty trading and ecommerce in Benin City, it’s level of adoption, challenges and possible ways of solving these challenges. The study adopted the survey research design, simple-random sampling technique and an online questionnaire which was administered to residents in the necessary locations. The study reveals significant insights into the dynamic relationship between petty traders and e-commerce. The findings underscore the evolving nature of commerce in this region and the potential for e-commerce to play a pivotal role in transforming traditional business practices. While a number of challenges facing the effective use of ecommerce by petty traders was discovered, the overall results of analysis point out that petty traders find mobile banking and internet transactions beneficial to their business. It was also discovered that the adoption of ecommerce has become a necessity due to rapid digitalization of the business process which petty traders engage in on a daily basis. Another interesting discovery of this research is that petty traders in Benin City were forced to adopt ecommerce and the use of mobile banking in their business as a result of monetary policies that restricted the flow of cash.
