ABSTRACT
The study investigated pertinence of information communication technology in the teaching and learning of integrated science in junior secondary schools in Egor local government area of Edo state. The design adopted for this study was the survey method. Four (4) research questions were raised to guide this study: How is ICT currently integrated into the teaching and learning of Integrated Science in junior secondary schools? How does the integration of ICT in the teaching of integrated science enhance student engagement and motivation? What are the perceived benefits and challenges of using ICT tools and resources for teaching and learning integrated science? What strategies can be recommended to enhance ICT integration in the teaching of Integrated Science?
The population of the study consisted of students from five (5) selected junior secondary schools in Egor local government area. The sample size for this study was a total number of one hundred and 50 (150) students who were selected using the simple random sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was used to obtain data from respondents. Data collected from the survey was statistically analyzed. After analysis, results were displayed and analyzed using thematic analysis to generate themes from the results.
From findings of the study, it was revealed that utilization of Information communication technology aid quick assimilation of teaching material, motivates students to learn more and serves as virtually appealing approach to teaching and learning of Integrated science in junior secondary schools. It was therefore recommended that the government and other relevant bodies should empower schools by providing adequate information and communication technology gadgets thereby enhancing the teaching and learning of Integrated science in schools as it is a fundamental subject that aids improvement of individual knowledge and development.
