Abstract

The study examined the influence of personality trait attributes: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism on employees’ group performance in the commercial banking industry in Benin City, Nigeria. The study also find out the most important attributes of service quality in the commercial banking industry, which can be used to evaluate the characteristics of banking personality traits as perceived by employees. The model was developed and estimated using the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) on data collected from a survey that yielded 385 usable questionnaires from commercial banking customers drawn from different banks in Benin City, Nigeria. The findings demonstrated that all the personality trait attributes have significant and positive influence on employees’ group performance in the commercial banking industry in Benin City, Nigeria except neuroticism. The result shows conscientiousness dimension of personality trait demonstrates the highest positive correlation with employees’ group performance and neuroticism shows the least positive correlation with employees’ group performance. This study suggests that personality trait model is a suitable instrument for measuring and assessment of the bank employees’ group performance in Nigeria. The findings also imply that the relationship between personality trait attributes and employees’ group performance will lead to commercial banks’ profitability.
