ABSTRACT
Every organization is highly interested in employee that brings value to the organization (Podsakoff, 2007; Singh & Loncar, 2010). Job involvement is considered to be a vital part of any organization because it give inclusion of the employee, thereby ameliorates an unfriendly relationships, which makes the entire workforce enthusiastic about working together in order to ensure organizational and employees goals are achieved (Col, 2004). According to (Brown, 1996:237) “Job involvement has positive organizational implications, influencing the way in which the person supports organizational goals, and thus advancing productivity and efficiency'5. Job involvement is a factor greatly predisposed by personality (Bezionelos, 2003).
Personality according to Cattell (1965), “refers to cognitive and behavioral patterns that show stability over time and across situations”. Therefore, this research used the big five model of personality developed by Digman (1990), to study and understand how employee personality relates to his involvement on the job. The focus of this research on identifying the various dimensions of personality as they affect job involvement.
A total populations of Three hundred and forty two questionnaires were administered (342) while 307 representing 95.94 percent was retrieved and found valid, and thus were considered in the analyses of this study.
Furthermore, the findings in this research establishes the existence of a relationship between the Big Five personality and job involvement, though not all dimensions were very strong, extroversion is found to be significant to job involvement, agreeableness is found to influence job involvement significantly. Neuroticism is more significantly related with job involvement.
