ABSTRACT
[Okra is a vital vegetable crop with high nutritional value. However, its productivity can be significantly influenced by agronomic practices such as plant spacing and number of plants per stand]. This study was carried out to investigate the impact of some agronomic factors on okra yield, quality, and growth. The experiment was conducted in the rainforest zone of Nigeria, during the late rainy season of 2024 at the Teaching and Research Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria from September to December. A Randomized Complete Block Design was employed, with these treatments- 50cm by 25cm with 1 plant per stand( 50×25×1), 50×25×2, 50×25×3, 40×25×1, 40×25×2, 40×25× and a replication of 4. Data were collected on plant height, days to flowering, number of capsules, number of seeds, yield of capsules, 1000-seed weight, seed yield, and stover weight. It was found that plant spacing and number of plants per stand did not affect okra growth, yield and performance. This means that okra will do well in any of the plant spacing and number of plants per stand compared in this experiment but in order to maximize okra growth and yield, the plant spacing of 40 cm by 25 cm with 3 plants per stand is recommended for farmers in the southern part of Nigeria.
