It is one of the most important microorganisms used in biotechnology. It has been in use already for many decades to produce extracellular (food) enzymes and citric acid. A. niger is a filamentous fungus growing aerobically on organic matter. In nature, it is found in soil and litter, in compost and on decaying plant material. In addition, A. niger is used for bio-transformations and waste treatment. The cassava flour used was already a processed one, purchased from Faculty of Agriculture Cooperative (FACOOP) processed and package by Amineru foods Nigeria limited, with Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) serving as a control.
