ABSTRACT
In a tropical country such as Nigeria, the performance of gas turbine power plant has a noticeable effect when the ambient air temperature into the compressor is high, but this can be improved by cooling the air entering the compressor by incorporating mechanical vapour compression system. In this research work, ASPEN HYSYS simulation software was used firstly to model a simple open gas turbine power plant and secondly to model the same plant fitted with an air cooling system. The results obtained show that 26.13% increase in power output and 23.35% increase in thermal efficiency were achieved by reducing the air inlet temperature from 27.63oC to 17.79oC in the simulation. In this research work, the gas turbine power plant was analyzed, which shows a potential for increasing power output of the plant and increasing in revenue. Due to environmental pollution, companies that use gas turbine power plant in Nigeria should adopt mechanical vapour compression system, because it minimizes the rate of pollution.
