PERCEIVED EFFECT OF PREGNANCY INDUCED HYPERTENSION AMONG ANTENATAL ATTENDEES IN EGOR LGA .

ABSTRACT

This study seeks to investigate the perceived effect of Pregnancy Induced Hypertension among antenatal attendees in Egor LGA. Three research questions were raised to guide this study. The descriptive research design was adopted for this study and purposive sampling technique was used to select 101 (one hundred and one) women attending antenatal clinic in Egor Primary Health Care center. Data was collected from the 101 respondents using a closed ended questionnaire with nineteen (19) items. The data collected was analyzed and interpreted using simple frequencies, percentage, mean and standard deviation.

Based on the data collected and analyzed, it was the perceived effect of pregnancy induced hypertension among the respondents and the level of knowledge of the respondents on the causes of pregnancy induced hypertension as well as the preventive measures of pregnancy induced hypertension. The result of the data collected and analyzed, also revealed that The women have high knowledge about the causes of pregnancy induced hypertension showing that they have heard about the causes of pregnancy induced hypertension, antenatal attendees are knowledgeable about the preventive measures of pregnancy induced hypertension.

It was recommended that health workers should embark on a more intensive education for antenatal attendees on the causes of pregnancy induced hypertension, intensive knowledge should be provided for antenatal attendees during antenatal clinics on the symptoms of pregnancy induced hypertension, health campaigns and awareness should increased and improved on the need and importance for antenatal clinics as the most effective settings for providing knowledge about pregnancy induced hypertension is during antenatal clinics and government should establish more health centres in the rural areas so that pregnant women will have access to health facilities.
