ABSTRACT
This study evaluates the perceived impact of health education program on the knowledge,attitude and practice of healthy living among secondary school students in Egor local Government Area. Specifically, the study seeks to; identify health behaviors that demonstrate measurable improvement after participating in health education program,asses the impact of health education program on secondary school students health literacy and examine the impact of health education program engagement on students’ physical, emotional and social well being. Furthermore in this research work, three (3) research questions were raised to guide the study. A descriptive survey research design was adopted to carry out this study. The population of the study comprises 120 secondary school students of Daniels’ Wisdom Academy in Egor local Government Area. A sample size of 120 students was determined using the census sampling technique to ensure that every member of the population was involved and no individual was left out. The research instrument used was a structured questionnaire, designed to collect data on the knowledge, attitude and practice of healthy living among secondary school students. The validity of the instrument was established through experts review by the supervisor and two other lecturers from the Department of Health, Safety and Environmental Education. The reliability of the instrument was tested using the test-retest method to ensure consistency in responses and the reliability result was .763. The data was collected by the researcher and the data collected was analyzed using a frequency count and calculating simple percentages. The findings of the study revealed that most secondary school students have high knowledge on the impact of health education on healthy living. The study also showed that secondary school students have a positive attitude towards healthy living but their practice towards healthy living is low. The study concludes that secondary school students in Egor local Government area have a high level of knowledge of healthy living and demonstrate a high low of attitudes towards healthy living but their practice is low. The study recommends that Government and the various stakeholders should incorporate policies that promote health education in school and enhanced health education program should implement more interactive and engaging health education sessions to improve students understanding and retention of knowledge.
