ABSTRACT

The study examines Pension fund administration and Retirees welfare in Nigeria. The Research was carried with the aid of the questionnaire administered to respondents, and the results were analysed using the chi-square analysis method. Based on the analysis, the following findings were arrived at: there is a strong relationship between pension fund investment and retirees’ welfare in Nigeria within the scope of study; pension fund administrators were found to be effective and efficient in their duty of timely dissemination of information.; there tend to be external influence on the scheme for not being transparent and accountable to pensioners; pension benefits are not easily accessible, those pensions are not being paid on due dates and quite difficult to access. As a result of this findings, the following recommendations were made that: a strong feedback and control should be set up by the government to ensure pensioners are adequately informed about were their fund is being invested; PFAs should ensure that information is made available to pensioners and must be timely too; there should not be government or other external interferences with the scheme; and government should create a system of pension that is easily accessible by pensioners and pensions should be paid on due dates.
