ABSTRACT
The construction industry constantly seeks sustainable and innovative materials to address environmental concerns. This research investigates the viability of utilizing bamboo leaf ash as a partial replacement for cement in the production of sandcrete bricks, with a focus on understanding its impact on compressive strength. The primary aim is to explore eco-friendly alternatives without compromising the structural integrity of the bricks. The nature of the work involves laboratory experiments, material testing, and statistical analysis to draw conclusive findings. The experimental investigation involves using different percentage of Bamboo Leaf Ash to partially replace cement in specific ratios (0%, 10%, and 20%) as suggested by a Response Surface Methodology software called DESIGN EXPERT. Tests including; compressive strength test, water absorption test, were carried out to assess the performance of the bricks. The bricks were casted and cured in different days (3, 16 and 28 days) from the result of the response surface methodology. Compressive strength test was carried out on each the blocks by crushing them, and getting the failure. Also, water absorption test were carried out on each blocks by immersing in water and taking the weight of each of the blocks when wet and absolutely dry. In conclusion, the impending use of BLA as a substitute for replacing cement in the production of sandcrete bricks is sustainable for use at 10% optimal at 28 days.
