PARENTS AND TEACHERS ATTITUDES AS PREDICTORS OF ADJUSTMENT OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES ; A CASE STUDY OF SOME SELECTED SPECIAL SCHOOLS IN BENIN METROPOLIS.

ABSTRACT

This study examined the attitudes of parents and teachers as predictors of adjustment of persons with disabilities in some selected schools in Benin metropolis, Benin City. The related literatures are reviewed on the theoretical framework,the concept of attitude, types of attitudes, Parents and teachers attitudes towards persons with disabilities (PwDs), Difference in Parents and Teachers Attitude Towards Persons with Disabilities(PwDs) by Sex, Difference in parents and Teachers Attitude Towards Persons With Disabilities(PwDs) by Age, Adjustment of persons with disabilities, Adjustment problems of persons with disabilities in Benin special schools. Importance of adjustment for persons with disabilities etc. The study used a survey design, and data was collected from parents and teachers of students with disabilities in two special schools. The results showed that parents and teachers generally had positive attitudes toward persons with disabilities, but there were some differences in attitudes based on gender, age, and experience working with persons with disabilities. The findings suggest that more attention should be given to developing positive attitudes toward persons with disabilities
