PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to assess Parental Involvement In Early Childhood Education And It’s Influence On A Student’s Academic Achievement In The University Of Benin. Five research questions were raised. This study made use of the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study consisted One hundred and twenty five (125) adult learners which is also the sample respondents for the study. The instrument for data collection for this study was a self-constructed close-ended questionnaire titled “Parental Involvement In Early Childhood Education And It’s Influence On A Student’s Academic Achievement In The University Of Benin The test-retest reliability method was used to determine the reliability of the instrument and the process yielded an index of 0.81 Data obtained from the study were analysed using mean and standard deviation. Findings from the study revealed that; Majority of respondents believe that parents play a crucial role in their child's early education and that parental involvement has a positive impact on a student's academic achievement. Students who receive consistent support and encouragement from their parents during their formative years are more motivated and persistent in pursuing their academic goals at the University of Benin. Parental involvement in early childhood education fosters the development of essential study habits and time management skills that are crucial for success in higher education. Based on the findings from the study, it is concluded that the culmination of our study underscores the profound impact of parental involvement in early childhood education on a student's academic journey, particularly within the context of the University of Benin. the following recommendations are made; There should be a comprehensive communication system established between the University of Benin and parents, facilitating regular updates on the child's progress, academic milestones, and areas needing improvement. This fosters a collaborative approach between parents and educators, ensuring a shared commitment to the child's academic success. There should be opportunities for parent involvement in decision-making processes related to the child's education, such as curriculum development, extracurricular activities, and educational policies. This not only empowers parents but also ensures their perspectives are considered in shaping the educational experience.
