ABSTRACT

The study investigated the parent socio-economic status as determinant of academic performance in selected schools in oredo local government. To achieve the purpose of the study, three research questions were raised and answered.

The descriptive survey research method was adopted for the study. The population of the study was made up of 50 students with visual impairment from 3 special schools in Oredo Local Government. The instrument for the study was a questionnaire and it was validated by the project supervisor and two other lecturers in the course area, data collected from the respondents were analysed using descriptive statistics, precisely mean and standard deviation.

The findings revealed parent socio-economic status the academic of parent with visual impairment, it also revealed a great link as the educational background of parents can contribute to the academics of students with visual impairment. Based on the findings, some recommendations were made which include; economic empowerment programs should be embarked on by the government at all levels to enhance parents income, the ministry of education should develop and implement the organization of workshops seminars and programs for parents of students with visual impairment for better understanding of the educational system, resources available and strategies to advocate for their child's needs.
