ABSTRACT
An investigation of the parasitic infection of amphibians P. pumilio and A. subsigiata, were investigated including the concentration of metals in the Liver, Thigh and Kidney of the anurans
species. Heavy metals analysis was carried out using standard methods. A total of 15
amphibian’s specimens were examined from Ikpe Community, IkpobaOkha L. G.A of Edo State,
Nigeria. The amphibians examined were Ptychadenapumilio and Aubrasubsigilata. 10 different
parasites which included 6 nematodes, 3 Trematode and 1 Cestode species were recovered from
the amphibians examined and were identified to the species level. The parasite includes 2
Mesocoeliummonodi, 1 Cylindrotaeniajaegerileioeidi, 1 Chabaudusloberri, 2 Aplectana, 2
Amplicaecum app, 2 RhabdiasAfricanus, 1 Cosmocercacomutata, 1 Cosmocercaornata, 1
Metahaemotolealusaubriae, 1 Acanthocephalacystecanth. The results show that the mean
concentration of metals in Kidney was 3.14±0.41mg/kg (Lead), 0.06±0.02mg/kg (Chromium),
3.72±0.29mg/kg (Copper). The concentration of metals in the Liver was 2.83±0.10mg/kg (Lead),
0.06±0.03mg/kg (Chromium), 3.66±0.21mg/kg (Copper). While the concentration of metals in
the Thigh was 1.17±0.20mg/kg, 0.03±0.01mg/kg, 2.79±0.34mg/kg Lead, Chromium and Thigh
respectively. The highest concentration of metals was found in Kidney while the lowest metals
concentration was found in the Thigh. The organ profile pattern was Thigh<Liver<Kidney in
Lead, Thigh<Kidney<Liver in Chromium and Thigh<Liver<Kidney.
