ABSTRACT

Every society in the world has its own distinct cultural values that have emerged from its historical experiences and are passed down from one generation to the next. Culture is never stagnant but always evolving. The pre-colonial opening of the area as a 45 tourist destination has caused increased emigration into the area, which has had a greater impact on the people of Obazuwa Community and it environ. The chapter also made clear that, like all other bodies of water in the region, the Ovia river provided fresh water for domestic use, which included drinking, bathing, swimming, cleaning, and leisure activities. The socioeconomic advantages or effects of Ovia river were also discussed in this chapter. The chapter demonstrated that while the river is the primary source of residential water supply, it is also a source of pollution that poses health risks today, in part because it is used as a sewage disposal outlet and excavation. The chapter also demonstrated how the river has been used for transportation, sand mining, recreation, and fishing. It serves as a hub for the growth of sport, research, and tourism. As a source of water, fish, and other aquatic animals for food, the Ovia River is incredibly valuable to the locals people.
