ABSTRACT

This study empirically investigated the relationship between perceived organisational support and organizational commitment among bank employees in Benin City. Organizational support dimensions of perceived employer, supervisor and fellow employees support were explored. In pursuance of the research objectives, banks employees of four (4) banks in Benin City constituted the study’s population. Yamane (1967)’s formula was used to draw up approximately 260 sample size from the entire population of 744. Of this number, only 216 responded, thus making out total sample size. The information elicited from the respondents was analyzed with descriptive statistics and multiple regression. The study revealed that each of the dimensions of organisational support positively and significantly influenced Organizational commitment in the banking industry in Benin City. In the light of these findings, the study recommended that management of bank should increase its level of support provided to employees by offering secure employment, training, flexible work and annual increase of salary and allowance to employees. In addition, the management should direct supervisor and other members in the organisation to engage in helping those with heavy duties and treating one and another with respect and dignity.
