ABSTRACT

Light weighting and optimization has gradually become the focus of manufacturing industries because of its numerous advantages. Their application is very relevant to the automotive, construction and other related industries where heavy duty engines and components need to be improved. Aluminum alloys are commonly used to achieve this because of the properties of aluminum making it suitable for production of lightweight components. However, these materials are difficult to access, and in scenarios where they can be accessed, affordability poses a challenge because of the huge cost of alloying elements. The developmenteof a hybrid composite material of periwinkle shelleand cowrie shell as reinforcements in aluminum is intended in this study, which will meet the required characteristics required to produce Internal Combustion engine components. The aim is to develop an engineering material needed to improve the manufacturing sector by advancing local content at the grassroots, which will further contribute to the technological, skills and material requirements in manufacturing.
