ABSTRACT

The importance of food cannot be undermined, this is why Poultry feed is essential for the healthy development of chickens. The feed of chicks should contain the essential nutrients, like energy, amino acids, proteins, fatty acids, minerals, and vitamins. Poultry feed can be made from a variety of ingredients, including agricultural wastes such as cassava peel, potato peel, potato leaves,  egg shells, snail shells, and wood ash. The aim of this study was to evaluate the growth performance of formulated feed on noieler breed of chicks from 4 weeks to 8 weeks. The study revealed the formulated feed prepared from Agricultural and domestic waste was effective as poultry feed comparable with commercial Top grower feed and mixture of both. The formulated feed, top grower feed and the mixture of top grower feed and the formulated feed in ratio 1:1 was fed to 60 noiler chicks for 4 weeks. The study gave rise to the observation that noiler chicks that were fed with formulated feed had better growth performance and hematological and biochemical parameters compared to the chicks that were fed the commercial feed or the mixture of both. The study resolved that formulated poultry feed prepared from agricultural and domestic wastes was a more viable alternative to commercial feed. It study also enlightened the researcher that the formulation was more affordable and can be produced locally, as it helped to reduce the cost of poultry feed production throughout the four weeks of study compared to the cost of commercial feeds.
