ABSTRACT
The study investigated the nutritional status of primary school pupils in Oredo Local Government. It explored the prevalence of malnutrition, the nutrient intake, the influencing factors, and practical solutions for improving nutritional status. Data were collected from 120 primary school students through a questionnaire. The instrument was validated by three experts and tested for reliability, yielding a coefficient of 0.886. The results indicated that many pupils felt hungry at school despite reporting having three meals a day. Some pupils experienced tiredness and weakness, suggesting that regular meal consumption did not necessarily equate to proper nutrition. Additionally, there was a discrepancy between pupils' belief in consuming enough fruits and vegetables and their symptoms of fatigue, highlighting that malnutrition affected pupils differently. The study concluded that malnutrition among primary school pupils in Oredo is a complex issue. Although pupils generally have access to three meals a day, many still experience symptoms of malnutrition, indicating a problem with the nutritional quality of their meals. The varied experiences suggest the need for individualized nutritional interventions and education to ensure all pupils receive adequate support for good health and academic success.
