ABSTRACT
“Pentaclethra macrophylla”, a plant native to West Africa, is traditionally used for its medicinal benefits. In this research, the methanol extract of “Pentaclethra macrophylla” (Benth) fruits was studied for its normoglycemic and anti-diabetic properties. The extract was tested in both normoglycemic and diabetic animal models to evaluate its effects on blood glucose regulation. The results demonstrated that the methanol extract significantly lowered blood glucose levels in diabetic models, indicating strong anti-diabetic potential. In normoglycemic conditions, the extract maintained stable glucose levels, suggesting a normoglycemic effect. Phytochemical screening identified the presence of bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and Saponin, which are likely responsible for the observed glucose-lowering and stabilizing effects. The extract's anti-diabetic mechanism may involve enhanced insulin sensitivity, increased glucose uptake, and inhibition of key carbohydrate-metabolizing enzymes. These findings highlight the potential of “Pentaclethra macrophylla” fruit extract as a natural remedy for diabetes management and blood glucose regulation. Further research is needed to isolate the active constituents and fully understand the underlying mechanisms of action.
