ABSTRACT
The aim of this study sought to analyze Nonviolent revolution as a means of democratic change in Nigeria. A sample of 120 questionnaires was distributed randomly to students and staff of the University of Benin, as representatives of citizens of Nigeria who make up the population of the study.
The study revealed that the Nigerian state is in dire need of change and that the defective state of Nigeria’s democracy is a challenge to actualizing this change trough peaceful means. Also, the study discovered that there are indeed constitutionally provided methods of carrying out a Nonviolent revolution. These methods can prevent the deterioration of the quest for change into violence.
It was recommended that the rule of law and independence of the Judiciary should be protected by the government in order to secure the possibility of Nonviolent change. The study also recommended that Nigerian citizens should be sensitized on the non violent means.
