ABSTRACT

This study examined the extent to which non-financial incentives (employee participation, recognition and achievement) influences employee retention among employees in Egor Local Government. The specific objectives are: examine the relationship between non-financial incentives and employee retention; determine the effect recognition on employee retention; impact of employee participation /involvement on employee retention; determine the effect of achievement or career advancement opportunities of employees on employee retention.Based on the analyses the study revealed that there is statistically tested and significant relationship between employee participation, level of recognition to the employee and level of achievement of the employee and employee retention in Egor local government area of Edo State. The parameter selected for the non-financial incentives are positive indicating that there is relationship between them and employee retention. This study contributed to other empirical studies on motivation and expanded the frontier of knowledge in management by providing statistically tested and significant relationship between non-financial incentives and employee retention. The study recommended that Though the importance of employee motivation to both the organisation and          employee cannot be underestimated but organisation should recognised that nonfinancial incentives has a very key role to play in enhancing the level at which employee think whether to leave or stay in an organisation.
