ABSTRACT
Inter-ethnic relations and political accommodation are central to the socio-political landscape of Nigeria, particularly between the Igbo and Hausa-Fulani ethnic groups. This study delves into the historical perspectives, contemporary dynamics, and challenges surrounding inter-ethnic rivalry and political accommodation between these groups. Through a comprehensive review of literature and analysis of key factors, including economic interactions, political representation, and cultural exchanges, this research highlights the complexities and implications of inter-ethnic relations in Nigeria. Historical legacies, colonial influences, and post-independence developments have shaped the dynamics of inter-ethnic relations, impacting governance, social cohesion, and national identity. Despite efforts to promote political accommodation through federalism and power-sharing arrangements, structural, leadership, and institutional challenges persist, hindering progress towards inclusive governance and equitable development. Based on the findings, recommendations are proposed to address these challenges and foster peace, stability, and sustainable development in Nigeria. By enhancing inter-ethnic dialogue, strengthening institutions, and promoting inclusive politics, Nigeria can overcome the barriers to political accommodation and build a more cohesive and prosperous society.
