ABSTRACT
This research work focuses on the coverage of coronavirus issues in Nigeria by two newspapers, The Punch and Champion. A quantitative research approach using content analysis was employed to collect and analyze data. The study examined the frequency of newspaper coverage, the prominence given to the issue, and the reportorial approach regarding the COVID-19 outbreak and precautionary measures. A total of 222 newspaper editions between February and July 2020 were selected for analysis. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical tools, and the findings revealed that The Punch had a higher number of reported stories compared to Champion. The newspapers prioritized the coverage of coronavirus, with front-page stories considered the most important. The majority of the stories were presented as hard news, followed by features and editorials. The study provides insights into the extent and nature of newspaper coverage of coronavirus issues in Nigeria.
