ABSTRACT
The objectives of the study were to find out whether climate change issues are being reported by the press and to examine the prominence given to climate change issues in the Guardian, Daily Trust and Punch newspapers. The study was designed to examine the coverage of climate change issues in Nigerian newspapers from January to March, 2018. Agenda setting theory and media dependency theory form the theoretical basis of this research work. The investigation involved content analysis of data obtained from sample of 65 editions of The Guardian, Daily Trust, The Punch newspapers. The results obtained showed that the three newspapers studied reported climate changes issues less; they did not accord the few climate change reports prominence neither were they frequent, and they have not taken a positive stand/direction in their reports concerning climate change. Consequently, the study recommended among others that there should be an increase in media interest and commitment to give reports that are consistent to the problems facing our environment.
