ABSTRACT
This Research work provides an in-depth analysis and knowledge into the language Situation in Nigeria.
This Research project has studied the language situation in Nigeria and has provided solutions that can come handy in solving the problems that the country might face due to it multi-lingual status.
Nigeria is a country with over 500 languages spoken and as such the country is faced with numerous language problems and this has resulted to the government opting to create the language planning Policy with the hope that the national language planning Policy will provide solutions to the different problems due to the Multilingual status of the country but the inability of the government to follow the guidelines and recommendations of the national language planning Policy has now resulted to more problems and the has left the language situation even worse than it was in the Beginning.
The language situation in Nigeria which has made rhe government recognize the English Language as the official language of the country and also the Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo Language as the major and official language of the country as resulted in most minority languages struggling and fighting for survival and not all of those languages will be strong enough to survive. This project also looks into the language planning situation of the country and how it should be improved and how it wi affect the language situation of the country
This work has provided solutions and recommendations that hopes to solve some of the problems of the language situation in the country.
This Research hopes that the government will do a revised national language planning Policy and follow the guidelines to the latter this time and also that indigenous languages pf the country will be given proper Attention and Recognition .
