ABSTRACT
This study explores the relationship between motivational strategies and productivity among staff in the Edo State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Nigeria. The research design employed a survey approach, with data collected through a 5-scale Likert-type questionnaire administered to a sample of 80 staff members, including top managers (Level 13 and above), middle managers (Level 8-12), and other junior staff (Level 7 and below). The questionnaire assessed respondents' perceptions and attitudes toward motivational strategies within the organization. Findings from the study revealed that the overall mean was 3.36 out of 5.0 (maximum score for a 5 likert scale). Hence, to a high extent, motivational strategies are available in the ministry of Local government and chieftaincy Affairs in Edo State. The overall mean was also 3.36 out of 5.0 (maximum score for a 5 likert scale). Hence, to a high extent, consultants’ advice were sought and utilized in strategizing motivation among workers of the Ministry of Local government and chieftaincy Affairs in Edo State. A correlation coefficient; r = 0.7332. It showed that there is a strong and positive relationship between Motivation and productivity among workers of the Edo State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. This implied that the motivated staff will give a better productivity than non-motivated staff. An also the overall mean was also 3.56 out of 5.0 (maximum score for a 5 likert scale). Hence, to a high extent, there are challenges facing motivation of workers and productivity in Edo state ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy. Among others, the study recommended that the civil service commission and the management in the Ministry should Continuously assess and update motivational strategies to ensure they align with the evolving needs and preferences of the workers.
